Using Your Time In Quarantine Wisely

Tips on being intentional with your time in quarantine

I know it’s been a little crazy these past couple weeks with everything going on around the world and everyone having to stay at home. I don’t know about you, but I’m starting to get a little stir crazy, and I’m sure I’m not the only one. It’s hard to stay busy and feel productive when you are home all day, as well as finding things to do.

I decided to set some goals for quarantine to be intentional with my time; I knew that this time could go fast and that I would miss having free time to do the things I love. I’m going to share some tips on how to spend your time in quarantine wisely and maybe help keep you sane.

Make some quarantine goals

The first thing I would suggest is making a list of goals, they can help keep you motivated to get out of bed and seize the day even when you just don’t want to. Some of my goals included getting ahead in school, working out daily, organizing my room, and reaching out to friends. Make a list that’s practical for you to try to do the things you never have time for!

Keeping a schedule is really important to be intentional with your time. I know my regular schedule has changed, but I try to create a new routine that can help you be productive and get things done. When you are home all day, it’s hard to not get sucked into binging Netflix shows in bed, but keeping a routine can really help with that.

Dive into something new

As good as it is to relax and have free time it’s also essential to work or keep up with school, I know that is difficult when you’re in a new environment. Maybe you’re unable to work right now, or you don’t have very much school, if that’s the case, dive into something new, start your own business, or start a blog. I can tell you from experience that it’s fun!! My Mom wrote a step by step instructional post right here, https://www.lifesneverdull.com/category/start-blog/ you should check it out.

It’s essential to take care of your health during this time, making sure you are working out a fueling your body right is a great way to utilize your time. Try new workouts or healthy recipes; getting outside is also essential taking a walk or even doing work/ school outside can really boost your mood. Taking my puppy on a walk

Do things you care about! I’m sure there is something in your life that you feel like you never have time for; maybe it’s playing an instrument, hiking, or art. With this extra time, really pour into something you love to do.

Pick a project

Pick a project; I don’t know about you, but I feel like I always have something to do, whether it’s cleaning out my closet or going through old storage bins, there is always something to work on. Make a list of all of the projects you have wanted to take on but never have had time, redecorate your living room or clean out the office, either way, get those projects done, you will feel so much better when they are done.

Get ahead, this goes for everything! Maybe there is a project coming up for school, try to start it early, or that zoom presentation coming up for work get a head start on it. There always something to work towards and help motivate you; take advantage of the time you have, and work towards your big goals and dreams.

Spend intentional time with your family

Spend some intentional time with your family; play a family board game, watch a new TV series together, or do a bible study together. This is a really great time to really pour into your family a grow closer to them. Maybe you are quarantined alone, you can still connect with family. Do a zoom book club or bible study together, play trivia games over the phone, or share recipe ideas; I know it’s not the same, but it can help grow you closer with the people you care about even when they are far away.

Zoom calls with my family

Maybe you are just plain bored, you’re ahead on everything, you’re prioritizing health, you’ve done the things you love, and you still have a ton of free time. If you have done everything, I have said to utilize this time and are still bored, here are some suggestions for you.

Things to do when your bored

  • Pick up a new hobby (baking, drawing, photography)
  • Find a good podcast (some of my favorite are Unsolicited Advice, Pretty Basic, Whoa That’s Good, and For The Girl)
  • Send a letter to friends and family (pen pals can be a fun way to connect no matter how old you are, it’s always fun to get mail!!)
  • Journal (journaling can be a great way to work through what your feeling and can be a fun thing to look back on)
  •  Spring clean (I know this doesn’t sound fun to everyone, but hey you’re bored)
  •  Really pour into God’s word (really use this time to get to know God better and revive your quit time with him)

I know this time is hard, and it’s ok to have off days and to not be ok, but remember that you are not alone. God is working through this situation. He is fulfilling the needs of our hearts and will continue to work in us when we surrender and trust him.

He is working

Colossians 1:16-17 says, “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities – all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together”. I hope that during this time, you can rest knowing that he holds all things together.

I hope these tips helped and that you can spend your quarantine intentionally and enjoy this time. I’m praying for everyone right now, and I hope you know that you are not alone, that you are fully known and fully loved.
