Beauty in today’s society has a lot of misguided meanings, our world has twisted beauty into outward appearances and body images. We have lost the truth that beauty is not just skin deep, it’s much more than that.
When God created man and woman, he created us in his image, and I think we often overlook that fact. It’s crazy and beautiful that we were all created in the image of the God of the universe. So when we find something about ourselves that we don’t like, we must remember that he made in his image, and that can encourage us.
I often find myself comparing my appearance to those around me, wishing I had different hair, eyes, or body image. It’s hard when we find ourselves scrolling through our Instagram feed and seeing that everyone seems to have their lives together; we forget that it’s just a highlight real.
Making Our Hearts Beautiful
Everyone has something about themselves that they don’t like weight, height, whatever it is; everyone feels insecure at one point or another. We put so much emphasis on outward things instead of trying to make our hearts beautiful.
When you feel like you are not enough, remember that God made you precisely who you are for a reason, he placed exactly where you need to be. Psalm 139:13-14 says, “For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.”
We are each made perfectly in him; he fully knows us and wholeheartedly loves us. We are his Beloved!! 1 Samuel 16:7 says, “But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not what man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” God looks within us and sees past everything on the outside.
I don’t know about you, but I would much rather have a beautiful heart then be gorgeous on the outside. We have to work on making our hearts beautiful in God’s eyes, and that’s when our true beauty shines out.
One way to work on your heart is through prayer, asking God for guidance in healing our soul from the world, and the pain it has caused us. Something I have been praying for lately is that God would break my heart for what breaks his, that he would fill my heart with his love and mercy for others.
Another way is through reading the Bible; knowing scripture can help us understand God and his desires. When we hide his word within us a get to know Jesus better, we begin to know his heart and become more like him.
Lastly is living out what the Bible says about changing our hearts and becoming more like him. This is probably one of the hardest things to do; is to live like Jesus because we are humans, and we fall short. But that is where Jesus comes and picks us up and tells us that it’s ok and that he loves us.
Beauty In God’s Eyes
Beauty in God’s eyes is in the heart; we are entirely beautiful to him, and when we are wholeheartedly seeking him and his heart, he rejoices. Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
Remember that you are fully beautiful inside and out; focus on looking within at what Jesus sees. You are his workmanship and his Beloved!!
