This world is all about staying busy, always moving on to the next thing. Self-care and taking care of yourself often gets put on the back burner. But it’s essential to take care of yourself before you go take care of everything else in your life.
There are three different ways to take care of yourself; spiritually, physically, and emotionally.
Spiritually
Let’s start with spiritually!! This is the most important one, but it’s often the one that gets put on hold. Trust me, I know from experience!
Being fulfilled spiritually is a fantastic thing; feeling God’s work in your life is incredible. But it’s hard when we are not seeking him and his word. Above all else, in our lives, we should be seeking him first. This is definitely something I struggle with; it’s hard to not let life get in the way. Jeremiah 29:13 says, “You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.”
It’s essential to make sure that we are being poured into, whether that’s a bible study, small group, or just a good friend who is speaking life into your life. Everyone needs to be fulfilled through Jesus so then we can pour into others. When you seek what the Lord says in his word, he guides us and satisfies us.
Physically
On to physically, I don’t know about you, but when I get stressed, this is the last one I think about. During my finals, you can usually find me at my desk in a big oversized sweatshirt and dishes at the end of my desk, not going outside at all. I get in full study mode when I’m stressed.
Even though I know this isn’t good for me; when we are continually going, it’s easy to push off eating healthy or working out. But it’s essential to take care of ourselves; when we are stressed, eating healthy and getting exercise often lifts our mood.
It’s essential to find time to get outside and soak up some vitamin D; I promise it will make you feel better. Also, remembering to take time to relax, take a long bath or do a face mask. Take care of yourself, don’t forget to relax!!
Emotionally
Lastly is emotional; it’s incredibly important to check in on your emotional health. It’s essential to feel whatever you are feeling; never feel like you aren’t allowed to be hurt, sad, or angry, you are entitled to feel whatever you feel. Remember that God meets us where we are and helps us work through these feelings. Take mental health days if you need to, read a book for fun, or watch a chill movie.
Remember to take care of yourself and take time to be on your own; do things that make you happy. Psalms 139:14 says this “I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well”.
You are beautiful inside and out, and God has amazing plans for you; Remember to take care of you!
