Life As A Homeschooler

When I tell people I’m homeschooled, they usually stare at me for a second surprised. Maybe it’s because I’m a very social person and they’re surprised to find out that I don’t go to school eight hours a day, or maybe it’s because I’m weird, but I don’t go to school, so no one has told me.

Well in this article I’m going to give you the inside scoop of being a homeschooler, here we go.

I am a very independent person and do most of my school on my own, apart from my mom proof-reading the occasional essay. Which means I also have to be self-motivated and a good time manager, and being homeschooled has helped me gain both of these essential life skills.

My parents have always given me a choice to homeschool, and this last year I made the decision to remain homeschooled through high school for a couple reasons.

One is that I have the opportunity to receive a fantastic Christian education, and I want to take advantage of that. I also have the choice to put myself out of the way of drama, and I’m grateful for that as well.

Like I said I’m a very social person and I’m involved with plenty of activities. I run cross country and play tennis through our local high school; I’m also very involved in Young Life and church groups.

Young Life is an international organization, who’s primary goal is to introduce high schoolers to Jesus through weekly club meetings, camp, and small groups.

Anyway, I am a student leader in Young Life which is fantastic and takes a lot of time. Although I have a good group of friends through these activities, it’s still hard to be a homeschooler when most people go to school.

There are times many people don’t know what to do with me because I don’t go to school with them and they don’t know what to say to me. Even when I feel left out, the right people are going to be kind, and I have good friends to surround myself with.

I’m grateful for the people God has put in my life and the opportunity to get a christian education.

I love being Homeschooled, and I’m blessed with a great community of friends that I can always count on. Although people still think I’m weird, at least I can do school in my pj’s.
